A Fashion Fiend // Fashion Law

Hey guys! I wanted to share with you a fashion seminar taking place this weekend in Arizona during the Business of Fashion Series presented by Phoenix Fashion Week. This is an important opportunity to talk face to face with an attorney about your brand.

I highly suggest taking this course, especially for bloggers. Most of us run our own blogs and just have no clue about people using our pictures, taking our ideas, etc. We need to know how to safeguard ourselves. Talia’s training is the best legal advice you will ever get and straight from an attorney’s mouth. Talia is captivating, extremely intelligent and will empower you to promote and grow your brand with outstanding confidence. Looking forward to seeing all of our AZ peeps there!

Phoenix associate, Talia J. Offord will present at Phoenix Fashion Week on Saturday, October 4th.  Ms. Offord’s presentation is titled “Fashion Law: Protecting Your Brand.” This presentation, one of the more popular topics at the event, will highlight the legal aspects of brand management. These aspects include trademark, intellectual property and copyright issues. The goal of her presentation is to provide practical advice to attendees wishing to establish a legally strong brand. ~Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith

Phoenix Fashion Week- Spring into Fashion Show 2014

I love supporting local talent and when we were invited to cover Phoenix Fashion Weeks “Spring into Fashion” event kick off featuring my good friend and stylist, Rochelle York, we were stoked! The show was based on 5 top stylists in Arizona and their outfit picks from local boutiques. The runway show was awesome, of course and spring trends were in abundance. Janee sat front and center as the models strutted each stylists looks down the concrete catwalk. The show was a great way to kick off Phoenix Fashion Weeks 2014 events. Be sure to check with us often as we will keep you posted on all the events and happenings in and around Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Here are Rochelle’s amazing styles featuring Clothes Minded Boutique.

Bri Seeley Trunk Show in AZ- Press Release

2012 Designer of the Year, Bri Seeley Returns to Phoenix to Host Trunk Show

TrunkShow SQUARE

Whether you are a fashion blogger looking to network, a fashionista that shops local or you just want to stay on-top of the latest trends, the upcoming Bri Seeley x Indie Stitch event at Clothes Minded is a must! Join Bri Seeley, Phoenix Fashion Week’s 2012 Designer of the Year, for an exclusive shopping event at popular Ahwatukee Foothills boutique Clothes Minded! Clothes Minded owner Kim Kendall is passionate about supporting local designers (many of them connected with Phoenix Fashion Week!) and is striving to build awareness about the fact that “designer” clothing doesn’t have to cost a fortune.  ”I am hosting this event to not only support Bri Seeley, but support the blogger community because they’re becoming a huge influence in the industry…every brand today should have a blog!” Kendall said.

Shop her award winning Escape Collection at 40% off, and pre-order her newest Silence Collection that debuted on the Phoenix Fashion Week runway last month! “I’m very excited to be returning to Phoenix. The community has been so remarkably supportive of my brand since winning Designer of the Year. An event like this, and the partnerships with Phoenix Fashion Week, Clothes Minded, and Indie Stitch give me an opportunity to connect with my customers on a more personal level,” Seeley said.

DATE: Friday, November 15, 2013
TIME: 4pm to 8pm
LOCATION: Clothes Minded AZ, 4810 E. Ray Road. #13, Phoenix, AZ 85044

Bri Seeley has also partnered with well-known local blogger Dustin Hoyman of Indie Stitch to activate the talented crop of bloggers here in Arizona. “Bloggers are becoming increasingly important to fashion. While a singular blog might not have the impact of a large publication, a strong blogging community can provide the voice and excitement to be the catalyst for change. We’re now seeing new trends and styles emerge from the blogosphere with viral speed. Indie Stitch wants to help build and grow our fashion community through creating real life connections between bloggers. The larger and more connected our community, the easier it is to attract designers and brands to our town, thus helping to grow our scene,” Hoyman said.

Scottsdale Polo Championship and Party!

November 1st marked a day of horse and rider, fall and fashion at West World in Scottsdale. As an equine and fashion lover, this event marriages my two favorite things beautifully. Being deemed “a rich man’s sport”, I am always in aww at the outfits worn to the matches. The women always look so well put together with their big hats and the dapper men are not to be over looked. Jadapa had the privilege of attending the Ferrari -Maserati themed event and fashion show after day one of the polo match. Hosted by Phoenix Fashion Week and styling by Dillard’s and My Sister’s Closet, riding boots were a big hit on the runway. Emerging Designer, Doux Belle, also made her mark pairing the outfits with her gorgeous, one of a kind hats. Another amazing show put on by the Phoenix Fashion Week team!

We quickly caught up with Joanna de’Shay of Black Russian Label to discuss her looks and what went into preparing for this event. Joanna was most excited about participating in Phoenix Fashion Week again. As the 2009 Emerging Designer winner, this half Nigerian, half Russian designer held nothing back. This 2013 collection made use of contrasting grays and blacks as well as wearable designs with leather and lace trims. Joanna used cultural inspirations for all over the globe. Joanna says”A Black Russian woman likes to be seen and wants her clothes to make a statement every time she enters a room.” -Black Russian label, redefining the face of fashion.

I also chatted with Sam Mascaro and Clary Jeffrey behind Loin Cloth LA as they excited the runway. The dudes said they were stoked about the show turn out and would do the designer bootcamp again in a heart beat. Their “where struggle meets success” line featured laid back Cali looks with style. The brand motto ” a penny and a plan” refers to how the boys got started with -$143 in the bank and a dream. You can really see the passion in the looks the guys created. The pocket details and floral prints are a huge hit with the brands’ followers. I asked the guys what was next for these two, Clary answered ” we go back to the grind.” These two guys’ dedication and hard work truly show in their amazing Summer 2013 collection. Thank you. Sam and Clary for taking this risk, you guys are awesome.

Phoenix Fashion Week 2013 highlights

Hi lovelies!! So happy to be back from traveling and blogging! I recently was in Arizona attending Phoenix Fashion Week with Jadapa and visiting with family. It was such an amazing experience to see the Emerging Designers of 2013, display their final pieces in a 3 night, runway extravaganza, ending with an amazing performance by our girl, international pop sensation, Yasmeen!

Our interviews with established designers: Joanna de’Shay of Black Russian Label, and Bri Seeley, emerging designers: Clary Ryan and Sam Mascaro of Loin Cloth LA, Herbert Victoria, Jai’re and Nekia Hattley of Jai’re International Couture and 2013 Emerging designer winner, Dolcessa are coming up so stay tuned!

Each night would start with 3-4 established designers hitting the runway with their upcoming seasons looks. Following a brief intermission, 4 Emerging Designers would showcase the designs that they have been working on since June! We have been following  the emerging designers over the summer and became very close with a few of them. Throughout this experience, we became a little family, it was so great seeing everyone and how much they have grown as artists and business people. We are so proud of all of them!

Special thanks to Brian Hill, Abbei Marquis, Lauren Pfingstag, Christina Ziegler, Brenna Moses, the Phoenix Fashion Week team and fellow blogger, Sheila Vertuno.

LA DESIGNER JA’IRE BRINGS EDGE TO THE PHOENIX RUNWAY

After an eight city tour, JA`IRE is selected as one of the 12 Emerging Designers to launch at Phoenix Fashion Week 2013

Los Angeles, CA (July 10, 2013) Ja’ire International Couture (JA’IRE) will make its debut at Phoenix Fashion Week 2013 in October. Competing with a host of other budding designers, JA’IRE was selected along with 11 other brands to showcase its collection during the 5th Annual Phoenix Fall Fashion Week. Distinguishing itself as a leader in the competition, the Los Angeles based company was voted “most likely to succeed as a brand” by a host of guests, media, and fashion industry professionals who attended the recent Phoenix Fashion Week Emerging Designer Challenge and press conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The designers were culled from a tour of the United States including Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and St. Louis. The selected designers will now compete for a $10,000 prize package consisting of goods and services to help launch their brands.  Sponsored by TONI & GUY, Zappos.com and Balluun.com (the global wholesale platform), “Emerging Designer Challenge” is an ideal platform for talented designers who are looking to introduce their collections to vendors and buyers nationwide. “Phoenix Fashion Week provides us with an exciting opportunity that new brands struggle to attain; to get the exposure and recognition from buyers, consumers, and press, essential for growth and to be successful in this industry” said JA’IRE Designer Nekia Hattley.

To show the versatility of the collection at the upcoming fashion show, JA’IRE will feature key pieces from its run of sexy, slinky, edgy, body hugging skirts and dresses and include one of their popular accessories, the “Shrug Glove.” This standout piece cohesively blends in with and compliments the other contemporary items in the collection, truly establishing JA’IRE as a ‘lifestyle’ brand.  The line is comprised of opened-backed, 30’s inspired floor length dresses, mixed media prints, skirts trimmed with vintage lace or eyelet details, peek-a-boo slit front and back maxi dresses and skirts, razor back cut-out drop-waist dresses, and asymmetrical hemlines all designed for wearable versatility and made of high quality fabrications.

With timeless styles and on-trend details, the collection is sure to have strong sell-through and enduring appeal. JA’IRE seamlessly fashions the perfect brand for women of all ages who desire sexy but classy, with just the right amount of edge. Ja`ire International Couture Dare 2 Be Seen!

Shop Garment District 2013

On Friday, August 10th, Phoenix Fashion Week held yet another astonishing event at Studio 3D in Phoenix. The Shop Garment District event is a runway show featuring the 12 Emerging Designers of PHXFW 2013! Each designer will show off four looks worn by the top 40 Phoenix Fashion Week models.

The runway show also served as the next challenge for the No. 7 Cosmetics. PHXFW models and the styles seen were available for purchase. Delicious lite bites were created by chef Tim Cobb of Luncha Libre. As usual, the lines from Ja’ire, Herbert Victoria, Trang Nguyen, Loin Cloth LA, and Medium Apparel were very impressive, and I’m still a huge fan of all of them. Another successful preview of what Phoenix Fashion Week 2013, October 1-5 at Talking Stick Resort, has yet to come. Thank you again to Brian Hill, Lauren, Abbei, Dominque, Melissa Rein, and the entire PHXFW team!

Phoenix Fashion Week ” Bridging Designers and Buyers”
October 1-5, 2013 at Talking Stick Resort

Meet Your 2013 PHXFW Models!

Last Thursday at The Mint in Scottsdale, we attended the Fashion Arizona 2013 Model Announcement party. The model search which took place at the end of June was narrowed down to the top 40 finalists (10 male, 30 female) who will compete in a series of challenges from now until Fashion Week, to see who will ultimately be named 2013 Male and Female Models of the Year. Along with this magnificent title, the winners will also be signed to Agency Arizona! Challenge #1 was broadcasted throughout the venue: the models had to give their all in the “Best Head Shot” look after their Tony & Guy make overs. After all of the top 40 strutted down the catwalk, only one male and one female were chosen as Challenge #1 winners. Congratulations to Sydney Rounsaville and Denis Danicic. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the competition brings!

Our swag bags were oh so nice, including some coupons to Ja’ire and Medium Apparel (two of the Emerging Designers this year), $20 ride credits provided by Uber car service, a full sized No.7 Cosmetics mascara, Green Living and Discover the Phoenix Region Magazines, and a tasty, all natural fruit and nut bar by KIND.

The next model challenge will be held along side the Shop Garment District Event on August 9th. Stay tuned for more details for that and the rest of the events leading up to Phoenix Fashion Week 2013!
