From Day to Night

I’ve been living in these boots for the last two weekends and I have to share how much I love them. Boots are definitely a favorite of mine and I was lucky enough to get to style two looks for shoe company, DUO. I have really slim calves and I am constantly missing out on knee high boots because the “average” calf size is too big for me. This company shows you how to measure your feet and calves for precise fit and comfort, so each pair is custom fit for you. This makes for a more polished look whether you’re wearing them in the office or for a night out on the town. The style of these boots is so versatile and the comfort will have you wearing them from day and night.

#onthecusp at Neiman Marcus

Happy Monday, everyone! Last Thursday marked the Neiman Marcus’ CUSP department showcase and fashion show. It was a fun and busy night of Tom Collins drinks, cupcakes, and hor’duerves. The fashion show featured spring’s hottest trends and the whole floor showcased the CUSP designers and their latest pieces. As a member of the Houston Tidbits Front Row program, I was treated to a grade A swag bag and of course, a front row seat on the runway. Black and white is still ruling as a trend and headed right on into the warmer months. The night was so fun and it was I loved seeing the newest fashions.

We quickly caught up with Joanna de’Shay of Black Russian Label to discuss her looks and what went into preparing for this event. Joanna was most excited about participating in Phoenix Fashion Week again. As the 2009 Emerging Designer winner, this half Nigerian, half Russian designer held nothing back. This 2013 collection made use of contrasting grays and blacks as well as wearable designs with leather and lace trims. Joanna used cultural inspirations for all over the globe. Joanna says”A Black Russian woman likes to be seen and wants her clothes to make a statement every time she enters a room.” -Black Russian label, redefining the face of fashion.

I also chatted with Sam Mascaro and Clary Jeffrey behind Loin Cloth LA as they excited the runway. The dudes said they were stoked about the show turn out and would do the designer bootcamp again in a heart beat. Their “where struggle meets success” line featured laid back Cali looks with style. The brand motto ” a penny and a plan” refers to how the boys got started with -$143 in the bank and a dream. You can really see the passion in the looks the guys created. The pocket details and floral prints are a huge hit with the brands’ followers. I asked the guys what was next for these two, Clary answered ” we go back to the grind.” These two guys’ dedication and hard work truly show in their amazing Summer 2013 collection. Thank you. Sam and Clary for taking this risk, you guys are awesome.

Meet Your 2013 PHXFW Models!

Last Thursday at The Mint in Scottsdale, we attended the Fashion Arizona 2013 Model Announcement party. The model search which took place at the end of June was narrowed down to the top 40 finalists (10 male, 30 female) who will compete in a series of challenges from now until Fashion Week, to see who will ultimately be named 2013 Male and Female Models of the Year. Along with this magnificent title, the winners will also be signed to Agency Arizona! Challenge #1 was broadcasted throughout the venue: the models had to give their all in the “Best Head Shot” look after their Tony & Guy make overs. After all of the top 40 strutted down the catwalk, only one male and one female were chosen as Challenge #1 winners. Congratulations to Sydney Rounsaville and Denis Danicic. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the competition brings!

Our swag bags were oh so nice, including some coupons to Ja’ire and Medium Apparel (two of the Emerging Designers this year), $20 ride credits provided by Uber car service, a full sized No.7 Cosmetics mascara, Green Living and Discover the Phoenix Region Magazines, and a tasty, all natural fruit and nut bar by KIND.

The next model challenge will be held along side the Shop Garment District Event on August 9th. Stay tuned for more details for that and the rest of the events leading up to Phoenix Fashion Week 2013!

Trend Spotter Summer Series: Event One!

The Trend Spotter Summer Event Series began last night, May 21, 2013, at Macy’s in The Galleria. The evening kicked off with tasty treats and wine, and DJ Fanci mixing some beats. Our swag bags were filled with Clinique samples, a Houston magazine, and Macy’s and Krayon catering coupons! The fashion show had men’s and women’s summer styles, dressed by Chelsea Alexa. Many Houston Fashion Bloggers were present and a few Houston Dynamo Players were there as well!! All of the Trend Spotters were styled to the 9’s, and the Dynamo guys were so sweet! I had the chance to show off my custom dress made by up-and-coming Houston designer, Delmonicole. I received so many compliments on this dress’s color pattern and design. This event was so much fun, and mingling with the other Trendy Fashionistas in Houston was such a great opportunity to see what this summer’s styles will be! I can’t wait for the next event on June 25!

Prabal Gurung for Target

Sunday, February 10th, Prabal Gurung released their much anticipated line in Target stores nationwide. The launch was closely watched as Target’s last collaboration back in December, with luxury brand Neiman Marcus, was a total failure resulting in many sad and disappointed Target and Neiman Marcus shoppers.

The line was way too expensive for avid Target shoppers and seemingly too dressy. It was quickly ushered to the clearance racks and then removed from stores.

Nevertheless, Target learned their lesson, and I’m happy to say I’m very pleased with the job they did with Prabal Gurung. Not only are the pieces on par with the clothing prices at Target, but the line’s romantic feel with floral patterns, bright pastel colors, and flowy dresses are perfect for Valentine’s Day and the Spring.

I was sad to see that so many pieces at my local Target were already taken or not in my size, but I managed to pick up the long sleeve tee. It’s still chilly and rainy here in Houston, so the long sleeves are prefect. The fit is awesome and the material is so soft. A lot of the pieces can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

All-in-all, Prabal Gurung collection at Target is a hit!
